Job TitleRegistered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry (Ortho/Bariatric/Colorectal Post-Op)

Schedule / Job TypeContract | Days | 3x12 or 4x12 shifts available | Every other weekend, floating, and holidays required | Travelers must work two of three winter holidays | Onsite
Key Responsibilities- Provide post-operative care for orthopedic, spinal, bariatric, and colorectal surgery patients on a 28-bed elective surgery and Level III trauma unit
- Monitor and manage care for Level III trauma patients and Medical-Surgical overflow as census permits
- Manage telemetry monitoring for up to 8 patients simultaneously
- Maintain a patient ratio of 1:7 and deliver safe, high-quality nursing care in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Complete required pre-start compliance modules (approximately 3 billable hours) prior to start date
- Pass a mandatory EKG/telemetry competency test (16 questions, minimum 80% required; one attempt only, no remediation)
- Active Virginia RN license or Compact RN license in hand at time of submission — no exceptions
- Minimum of two years of recent, relevant Medical-Surgical/Telemetry RN experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Proficiency in Epic EMR required — no exceptions
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association required
- ACLS certification through the American Heart Association required
- Must pass facility EKG/telemetry competency test with a score of 80% or higher (one attempt given; no remediation available)
- No prior license or background hits — candidates with any history will not be considered
- Fit testing required; facility cannot accommodate PAPR — any history of fit test issues will disqualify a candidate
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Experience caring for orthopedic, bariatric, or colorectal post-operative patients
- Familiarity with Level III trauma patient care
- Strong telemetry interpretation skills including sinus rhythms, heart blocks, lethal rhythms, atrial and junctional rhythms, and pacing
- Work in a specialized surgical unit offering exposure to a diverse post-operative and trauma patient population in a collaborative care environment
- Located in the Coastal Virginia region with access to beaches, waterways, and outdoor recreation
