We are seeking a motivated Density Technician to support quality control operations for asphalt paving and roadway construction projects. This role involves performing field and laboratory testing, operating nuclear density gauges, collecting and analyzing material samples, monitoring compaction results, and working closely with construction crews to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
Responsibilities- Perform field and laboratory testing of asphalt, aggregates, and construction materials.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain nuclear density/moisture gauges.
- Conduct compaction testing and verify density results through core sampling and analysis.
- Record, analyze, and report testing data while maintaining accurate documentation.
- Monitor paving operations and communicate results with foremen, roller operators, and plant personnel to achieve project specifications.
- Perform roadway construction testing, including temperature, layer thickness, density, and material sampling.
- Prepare and package samples and cores for acceptance testing.
- Transport, store, and maintain testing equipment in accordance with applicable regulations and safety requirements.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and demonstrate a strong work ethic.
- Basic math skills and the ability to perform calculations.
- Ability to read maps, follow directions, and interpret construction plans.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work.
- Construction materials testing, asphalt testing, or quality control experience preferred.
- Must be able to obtain required certifications, including Nuclear Gauge Safety Training and applicable asphalt testing certifications, if not already held.
- Starting Pay: $17.00 per hour
- Pay Increase:
After successfully obtaining required certifications and demonstrating proficiency in the role, compensation increases to $19.00-$20.00 per hour - Overtime opportunities may be available based on project needs.
