General responsibilities of the GIS Specialist include:
- Converts preliminary and recorded subdivisions, condominiums, easements, plats and other documents by creating and editing the GIS Parcel Fabric in ArcGIS Pro.
- Reviews preliminary re-subdivision plats.
- Creates parcels and makes data changes based on recorded plats and documents within the Vision CAMA system.
- Conducts research of legal documents to ensure the correct platting of property descriptions.
- Provides customer service for walk‑in or call‑in customers.
- Works toward achieving a one‑to‑one match between the parcel layer and assessment software.
- Uses GIS system to produce mapping products such as preliminary plans, base map data, and custom maps and charts.
- Collects, enters, prepares, and converts data from hard copy to digital form.
- Creates, updates, and edits departmental GIS data layers.
- Maintains Department Website.
- Reviews and manages quality control operations and verification to ensure the accuracy of data and system integrity.
- Researches and analyzes available information to assist staff, developers, builders, and others, including support of historical title research.
- Extracts related GIS data for use in project planning and development.
- Assists in the development and planning of emergency events using GIS and CAD programs and data.
- Collaborates across departments (e.g., City Attorney, Development and Permits, Planning) to problem‑solve various issues.
- Conducts assigned studies.
Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Required QualificationsVocational / Educational Requirement:
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in geographic information systems or a closely related field.
Experience Requirement:
This job class requires a minimum of two years of related, full‑time equivalent experience.
Special Requirements:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short‑term department needs and/or city‑wide emergencies.
- Experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS Suite, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise
- Experience with ESRI’s Parcel Fabric
- Effective analysis and problem‑solving skills
- Current GISP Certification
- Knowledge of plats, surveys and deeds
Location:
Chesapeake, VA
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM). Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short‑term department needs and/or city‑wide emergencies.
Pay: $55,854 – $83,083 annually; starting salary based on qualifications and experience.
Pay Grade: GE11 | Pay Basis:
Semi‑Monthly | Position Driving Requirement: N – Never | Number of hours worked per week: 40
