Position Summary

The Sign Installation Technician is responsible for the safe, accurate installation, maintenance, and removal of traffic control signs and related devices. This role supports roadway and work zone safety by ensuring signage is properly placed, visible, and compliant with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. The technician works as part of a field crew to support construction, maintenance, and traffic control operations for Spivey Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, remove, and maintain temporary and permanent traffic control signs along roadways, construction zones, and work sites
  • Load, transport, and unload signs, stands, cones, and other traffic control equipment
  • Read and follow traffic control plans, layouts, and diagrams to ensure correct sign placement, spacing, and sequencing
  • Safely operate company vehicles and basic equipment, including trucks, trailers, and post-driving equipment
  • Perform site inspections to confirm proper installation and identify potential safety hazards or deficiencies
  • Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on signage and equipment to ensure functionality and visibility
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with supervisors, flaggers, and crew members to complete projects efficiently and safely
  • Comply with all safety standards, including wearing PPE and following OSHA and DOT guidelines
  • Respond to emergency or after-hours call-outs for urgent traffic control installations or adjustments, as required
  • Perform all other duties as required
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL may be required or preferred)
  • Previous construction, traffic control, or outdoor labor experience is a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret traffic control plans
