SummaryThe Installation Tech possesses a basic understanding of NAVSEA installation processes and the use of common hand and power tools. Tasks are completed as assigned by the Installation Supervisor or under the supervision of a senior installation team member and in accordance with company work instructions. Periodically required to lift/move equipment up to 50 pounds. Additional duties may be assigned when qualifications are met.
Responsibilities- Open and close cableways, cable trunks, and multi cable transits; transport material/tools to and from the worksite; stand fire watch; paint; lag; assist in weld preparation/fit up.
- Familiar with removal and installation of HVAC ducting, piping, cabling (copper and fiber), equipment racks, lockers/furniture, fiddle boards, connection boxes, power panels, lighting, antennas/radomes, foundations, waveguide, decking, multi‑pin/fiber optic/RF connectors, cable tags/wire markers.
- Problem solving and troubleshooting.
- Provide installation assistance during SOVT.
- Overtime routinely required but not guaranteed.
- Travel outside the local area may be required.
- Perform other assignments or tasks as needed to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals.
Education and Training:
- Level I: HS diploma or GED (required depending on contract);
Associates degree or trade school certificate (related field) or 12 months related experience. - Level II: HS diploma or GED;
Apprenticeship, Associates degree or trade school certificate with one year directly related experience or 2.5 years technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting or repair of various military combat systems. - Level III: HS diploma or GED;
Apprenticeship, Associates degree or trade school certificate with four years related experience or 5 years technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting or repair of various military combat systems. - Level IV: HS diploma or GED;
Apprenticeship, Associates degree or trade school certificate with five years related experience or 7 years directly related technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting or repair of various military combat systems.
Certifications:
- Cable‑way certification
- Fiber optic connector certification
- Multi‑pin connector certification
- Fire watch certification
Clearance up to Secret level may be required.
Physical/Environmental Requirements- Lifting/moving up to 50 pounds.
- Routinely climbing several flights of stairs.
- Performing tasks in confined spaces.
- Work primarily onboard naval vessels; variables of physical activity such as stooping, climbing, walking.
- May work outdoors or in warehouse; experience temperature variations, extremely loud noises, and other hazards.
