HVAC Mechanic

General Summary

Installs, maintains, services and repairs environmental‑control systems; utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipe fitting and structural layout.

• Install, service, troubleshoot and repair chillers, air handling units, controls, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, refrigerators, freezers, hot/chilled water pumps. Experience with predictive maintenance programs is highly desirable.
• Operate systems and evaluate equipment to determine needed repairs.
• Install refrigeration and air conditioning systems by positioning compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators, heaters and other components in accordance with design specifications.
• Charge refrigeration systems with refrigerant gas and test for leaks.
• Start units and adjust for proper cut‑in and cut‑out of refrigeration units, humidifiers, heaters, air cleaners, and circulating pumps.
• Adjust systems for optimal performance.
• Maintain refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems by checking performance, diagnosing problems, and repairing, adjusting or replacing defective elements.
• Install, maintain and repair the electrical and pneumatic systems associated with refrigeration and air‑conditioning equipment from the safety switch throughout the equipment.
• Operate all types of centrifugal and reciprocating refrigeration/air‑conditioning systems; and all types of pneumatic/electro‑mechanical temperature controls.
• Perform necessary plumbing procedures to ensure operation of systems and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and other duties as required.
• EPA Certified.

• Minimum 2 years of experience performing the specific craft function or certification from a recognized trade school.
• Broad trade knowledge of mechanical principles on standard shop methods of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Trade.
• Experience and/or certification in one or more predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, infrared, ultrasound, etc.).
• Ability to interpret and develop technical reports.
• Ability to operate testing equipment for the systems, use all tools and equipment necessary to this trade, follow standard methods and procedures, and perform unusual and difficult operations when required.

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop, kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods, and maintain constant arm extensions.
• Occasional exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals; minor safety hazards such as cuts, bruises may occur.
• Drug‑free workplace; subjects to pre‑employment substance abuse testing.

The base salary range for this position is $31.12. This position may also be eligible for a wide range of competitive benefits, which can include medical, well‑being, financial planning, and short‑term incentives benefits.
