As a Utilities Electronics Technician, you will play a key role in maintaining and optimizing critical electronic systems that support water and sewer operations. The position blends hands‑on technical work with problem‑solving and system improvement, including installing and servicing instrumentation, troubleshooting and repairing equipment, and ensuring systems operate efficiently and meet regulatory standards.
Responsibilities- Repair, maintain, inspect, install, and calibrate instrumentation, control systems and equipment related to water production, distribution and sanitary sewer pump stations.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and conduct preventive maintenance on electrical, electronic, and instrumentation systems, including PLC, VFD, various level, flow, pressure, temperature devices, solid‑state reduced‑voltage controllers, pneumatic and digital instrumentation, alarm telemetry systems, data loggers, motor control circuits, generator control and transfer switches.
- Design, fabricate, and install new instrumentation systems; read and interpret blueprints, diagrams and schematics for PLC, ladder logic and PI controls.
- Provide cost estimates, evaluate resource needs, manage deployment of resources and prepare specifications.
- Maintain inventory of spare parts and initiate procurement of replacement supplies as necessary.
- Collect data for preventive maintenance system and prepare reports including repair and maintenance records.
- Operate service vehicle, meggers, power analyzers, hand and power tools, generators and load bank testers; recommend changes to operational functions as needed.
- Supervise or guide subordinate staff to ensure equipment meets applicable codes and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in electronics or a closely related field.
- Minimum two years full‑time equivalent experience.
- Valid driver’s license with driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.
- Communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in programming and calibration of water and sewer instrumentation and controls.
