Installation Technician, General Labor, Field/Service Technician
Position Location
Onsite based in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Job OverviewThe Engineering Technician role provides day-to-day integration support for a variety of communication systems and internet protocol equipment. The candidate will work professionally and courteously in a deployed team environment, supporting Subject Matter Experts with copper and fiber installation. The position reports directly to the Project Manager of the Shore Installation Group in Chesapeake, VA.
Responsibilities- Support installation, planning, testing, and integration of complex networks, telephony systems, and command centers worldwide.
- Operate in secure and non-secure military environments such as Naval/Coast Guard bases, command centers and piers.
- Maintain required certifications and security clearance.
- Own and maintain hand tools required for daily duties.
- Complete required paperwork, timesheets, and reporting.
- Provide input and note any issues requiring attention from other staff members.
- Prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, especially while traveling.
- Associate’s of Science degree or equivalent and at least one year of installation/integration experience; alternatively, high school diploma with three years of practical experience, including installing copper/fiber cabling, testing, manufacturing, or maintenance.
- Ability to attain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% CONUS/OCONUS and work extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to provide a driving record upon request.
- Experience reading installation drawings and technical manuals.
- Experience with RF, multi-pin, and fiber optic cable and connector building.
- Installation and integration of copper and fiber infrastructure in military buildings, warehouses, and hospital environments.
- Support the onsite lead in prioritizing and executing daily tasks.
- Terminate data cables (cat5e, cat6) and build pathways and install copper/fiber trunks in commercial settings.
- Operate vehicles, hand tools, power tools, ladders, and test equipment.
- Assist other team personnel as needed.
- Promote a team approach and problem-solving environment.
- Perform cyber security assessments and implement controls.
- Pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
- Work both inside and outdoors.
- Tolerate cold, heat, and exposure to hazards.
- Work in low-light areas for extended periods.
- Occasional long-duration travel may be required.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Stoop, bend, or squat to accommodate obstructions in varied environments.
- Work on ladders and aerial lifts.
