Public Utilities - Water Services team has an immediate opening for an Equipment Operator I.

As an Equipment Operator I on the Water Services team you will learn how to repair, install and maintain water service lines.The City of Chesapeake Public Utilities - Water Services team is seeking a motivated, hands-on individual to join our crew as an Equipment Operator I.

What You'll Do:
- Install new water services, including tapping water mains and boring under roadways
- Repair, upgrade, and abandon existing water service lines
- Replace and upgrade water meter boxes
- Locate underground utilities
- Restore work sites, including soil, asphalt, and concrete surfaces
- Perform general construction, maintenance, and manual labor assignments

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT :
Requires completion of 10th grade in high school. High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this class requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards .
Depending upon department requirements, a Commercial Driver's License ( CDL ), or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire, is also required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training is preferred.
Basic knowledge of pipe repair techniques and maintenance of water service lines is a plus!
