Advanced Weapons Elevators (AWE) Electrician

Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! As an Advanced Weapons Elevators (AWE) Electrician with our Elevator Support Unit (ESU), you will provide task support by installing, operating, maintaining, repairing, and technical support on electrical systems. This is a full‑time hourly position located in Chesapeake, VA. Selected candidates will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases around the country and abroad when not assigned to a local task.

What

You Will Do
  • Support trades team on active class surface ships to perform alterations and installations for fleet modernization; install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment.
  • Perform maintenance and technical support on ships, integrated systems, and related equipment/software at company, customer, or field locations. Provide onsite training of customer support personnel and perform quality inspections on finished products.
  • May provide direction and lead others.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time. Apply comprehensive understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments.
  • Interface with customers, manage subcontractors, provide work directions, and lead others. May manage multiple jobs. Perform a variety of complicated and non‑routine tasks, including duties outside of specialty, to complete installations or work assignments.
  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports, and task or trip reports. Schedule, report, and brief customers and senior management.
What You Must Have
  • High School education, Trade School, or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, including specific systems expertise.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
  • Must have complete comprehension of marine electrical systems, equipment, functions, and tools.
  • Must have working knowledge and experience with installing, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, and repairs of electrical systems and associated equipment on marine vessels.
  • Must have Ford and/or Nimitz class carriers experience.
  • Must have at least 6 years of Advanced Weapons Elevator (AWE) experience.
  • Must have experience working on AWE actuators.
  • Must be able to read drawings and schematics, and work packages.
  • Must be able to calibrate and make minor repairs on tools/equipment.
  • Must have experience conducting on‑site installation of equipment while following established safety, quality control, and testing procedures.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance and maintain the clearance level throughout employment.
  • Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.
  • Must be able to travel when not assigned to local tasking.
Bonus Points For
  • Graduation from or completion of a vocational school, apprenticeship program, or a skilled trades certificate program.
  • Experience related to maintenance and repair of shipboard aircraft elevators, Advanced Weapons elevators, and/or ordnance handling equipment and vertical package conveyors.
  • Candidate with a current or active DoD clearance.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment and boxes; minimum weight requirement not less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties that may involve high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.

May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
