Summary

Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! As an Advanced Weapons Elevators (AWE) Electrician with our Elevator Support Unit (ESU), you will provide task support by installing, operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems. This full‑time hourly position is located in Chesapeake, VA. Selected candidates will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases across the country and abroad when not assigned to a local task.

What

You Will Do
  • Support trades team by working on active class surface ships to perform alterations and installations for fleet modernization. Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify equipment.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as shipboard systems, integrated systems, and related equipment/software at company, customer, and/or field locations. Provide onsite training of customer support personnel when required. Perform quality inspections on finished product.
  • May provide direction and lead others.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time. Apply comprehensive understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments.
  • Interface with customers, manage subcontractors, provide work directions and lead others. May manage one or more multiple jobs. Perform a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks including duties outside of specialty to complete installation or work assignment.
  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and trip reports. Schedule, report and brief customers and senior management.
What You Must Have
  • High school education, trade school or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, including specific systems expertise.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
  • Complete comprehension of marine electrical systems, equipment, functions, and tools.
  • Working knowledge and experience with installing, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and associated equipment on marine vessels.
  • Experience with Ford and/or Nimitz class carriers.
  • At least 6 years of Advanced Weapons Elevator (AWE) experience.
  • Experience working on AWE Actuators.
  • Ability to read drawings, schematics, and work packages.
  • Ability to calibrate and make minor repairs on tools/equipment.
  • Experience conducting onsite installation of equipment while following established safety, quality control & testing procedures.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance throughout employment.
  • Ability to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.
  • Ability to travel when not assigned to local tasking.
Bonus Points For
  • Graduation from or completion of a vocational school, apprenticeship program, or skilled trades certificate program.
  • Experience related to maintenance and repair of shipboard aircraft elevators, Advanced Weapons elevators, and/or ordnance handling equipment and vertical package conveyors.
  • Current or active DoD clearance.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. Minimum weight 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and confined spaces. Able to perform duties involving high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods.

May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
