Role Description

This is a full-time position for a Shipboard Electronics (COMMS) Technician, working out of the Chesapeake, VA Office and will include on average 50 - 75% travel both across the US and overseas nominally 1 - 3 weeks at a time.

Potential pay ranges from $50k - $90K/year depending on knowledge and experience level.

Potential list of candidates include

Must have at least 6 years hands on experience as one of the following:

US Navy Electronics Technician (ET) with focus on COMM SYSTEMS
US Coast Guard Electronics Technician with a COMM focus
US Army MOS of 94XX Electronics Repair / 25S/U/C Radio, Signals Operators or Maintainers.
US Marine MOS of 0621/0627/2841/2821/ Radio operator and/or maintainers
US Air Force 1C XXX or 3D XXX Ground Electronics, Satellite, Tactical Signal, Radio maintainers

This position requires past/current hands‑on experience of the following various areas:

HF (URT-23 / R-2368 / RM 500 / RM 5800 / PRC-160 / AS 2537, AS 3771, AS 3772)
UHF (WSC-3, / TD-1271 / MD-1324 / PRC-158 / URC-200 / OA-9123/9277 / USC-61 DMR / PRC-117 / OE-82 / OE-570 / AS 1735, AS 2809, AS 2810, UVU-130)
TACAN
INMARSAT NGW
Coaxial and Multi-pin connector building
Fiber Optic cable installation and termination

Familiarity of the following:

Responsibilities include the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic communication systems and antennas onboard ships. Key day-to-day tasks include troubleshooting and repairing electronic systems, soldering components, conducting electrical maintenance, and ensuring all communication systems meet operational standards. The role will require collaboration with teams, accurate documentation of repairs, and compliance with safety regulations. MAETS is compliant with the ISO 9001:2005 QA program.

Qualifications:

Active SECRET or Top-Secret clearance (or ability to obtain one).
Current or ability to obtain Maritime OSHA 10
Ability to wear Fall Protection Harness and climb un-aided on ship structures
Ability to carry tools, equipment, and materials up to 50lbs on your own.
Valid Driver’s License
Currently possesses or be willing to obtain a US BLUE Passport.
General RF theory and system circuit setup
Knowledge of basic SERIAL DATA protocols I.E. RS-232, RS 422, RS 485, MIL-188-C
Understanding of how to read blueprints and shipboard cabling drawings
Experience with Troubleshooting and resolving electrical and electronic issues
Knowledge of Electricity principles and hands‑on Maintenance & Repair expertise
Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety standards
Ability to interpret and follow technical schematics and manuals
Ability to work independent AND in groups.
Knowledge of basic hand and power tools and their usage.
Keen problem‑solving skills and attention to details.
Understanding of various NAVSEA Standard items as well as ABS ship building requirements
Ship Cableway inspections
FCC GROL Certificate License (not required but a good plus)
FCC Amateur/HAM Radio License (not required but a plus)
Indoors and outdoors
Potentially in temperature extremes (hot or cold) and wet weather
Shipyard and/or drydock situations
