Assistant Welder​/Fitter

Assistant Welder/Fitter – Global Security (GS) – located at the Woodlake Fabrication Shop in Chesapeake, VA. 25% project‑based travel to shipyards and military bases may be required.

• Display company values of quality, safety, and respect while performing fabrication duties.
• Learn and focus skills under senior technical tradespersons toward NAVSEA Welding Certification.
• Execute technical trade duties per blueprints and technical manuals, including repair, installation, maintenance, and modification of structures and systems.
• Perform general or semi‑skilled tasks such as supplying materials and tools, cleaning work areas, and operating equipment.
• Support fabrication, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of systems and equipment.
• Apply job skills and company policies to a variety of tasks based on job, contract, and customer requirements.

• High School diploma and 1 year of related experience, or trade school or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain medical clearance to wear a half‑face respirator.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Own own hand tools as required per trade specialty.
• Adherence to HII safety and quality procedures.

• Trade school or experience in structural fabrication, shipfitting, or welding.
• Experience reading blueprints or engineering sketches.
• Prior NAVSEA‑certified welding experience.
• Experience in related technical trades.
• Current or active DoD confidential clearance or higher.

Must be able to lift and carry at least 30 lbs, work on and climb ladders, and operate in extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and on ships. Must perform other duties as required, including wearing a respirator and potential shipboard duty.
