Plumber Master tradesperson 3- 29100

HII's Mission Technologies division is seeking an experienced Plumber to join our team supporting the Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces (COMUSFLTFORCOM) Berthing and Messing Program, which operates duty crew berthing barges that provide essential living and working spaces for crews during ship overhaul and repair periods.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Perform organizational-level (O Level) maintenance and repairs to keep all plumbing and piping systems aboard berthing barges operational.
  • Assemble, install, maintain, and repair piping systems and plumbing fixtures for steam, heating, potable water, drainage, and wastewater systems.
  • Conduct repairs from pier-side connection points to valves, taps, and fixtures.
  • Inspect and repair steam, water, and gas lines from regulator cut-off valves to appliances.
  • Maintain, repair, and replace sinks, toilets, urinals, faucets, basins, showers, and drain lines when required.
  • Test piping systems for pressure and proper flow following repairs.
  • Support annual inspections, tank/void opening, gas-free processes, and CHT (sewage) system repairs as required.
  • Respond to emergency, urgent, and routine plumbing service calls within PWS-defined time standards.
  • Maintain deck drains and associated piping, removing obstructions and ensuring proper drainage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or Trade School equivalent; technical training/certification in plumbing preferred.
  • 4+ years of demonstrated experience in plumbing, pipe fitting, or marine/industrial piping systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret OEM manuals, piping schematics, and technical standards.
  • Ability to work in shipboard, pier-side, and industrial environments.
  • Ability to safely perform brazing, threading, coupling, pressure testing, and fixture installation.
  • General mechanic knowledge and ability to operate various tools in support additional tasking.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces aboard barges and in shipyard environments.
  • Must consistently wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety boots, fall protection) and follow program safety training/briefings.

Regular:
Monday–Friday, 0700–1530. Overtime, weekends, and federal holidays may be required for urgent/emergency work. 10 % Periodic travel to Kittery, ME and Groton/New London, CT for site inspections and coordination.
