We are currently seeking an Electrical Field Service Technician to join our team. This position provides a unique opportunity to work on a wide range of industrial electrical equipment, power distribution systems, and switch gear while supporting customers throughout the region.
This role also includes cross-training opportunities in the switch gear field, allowing you to expand your technical skills, gain valuable hands‑on experience with low‑and medium-voltage power distribution equipment, and advance your career within our growing organization.
Job Responsibilities- Travel to customer sites (approximately 50% travel, typically within a 250-mile radius) including paper mills, power plants, water treatment facilities, manufacturing plants, and other industrial locations.
- Diagnose operational problems in electrical power generation, power distribution, control systems, and associated equipment.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and test electrical systems, electrical equipment, emergency and standby power generation systems.
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of AC and DC electric motors and generators, including:
- AC Induction Motors
- AC Synchronous Motors
- AC Wound Rotor Motors
- DC Shunt Wound Motors
- DC Series Wound Motors
- AC and DC Generators
- Conduct infrared (IR) thermography inspections of customer power and control systems.
- Use specialized electrical test equipment including voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, meggers, Advanced Motor Circuit Testers (AWA IV-12, PDMA MCE, Megger ADX-15), and other diagnostic instruments.
- Interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications to plan and complete electrical work.
- Perform standard electrical calculations related to wiring, loads, and equipment.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, repair, overhaul, and test low- and medium-voltage switch gear.
- Perform disassembly, component inspection, repair, reassembly, and functional testing of switch gear and circuit breakers.
- Understand and apply NETA, IEEE, and NEMA standards as they pertain to power distribution equipment.
- Troubleshoot technical issues both in the shop and at customer facilities.
- Work with protective relays, control systems, and associated switch gear components.
- Assist with training personnel on troubleshooting, repair, testing, and maintenance of power distribution equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Higher education such as vocational training, technical trade school (AVO Substation Maintenance, Relay Testing, etc.), or an associate or bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Minimum of four (4) years of industrial electrical troubleshooting experience with a background in AC/DC motors, controls, generators, or power distribution equipment.
- Experience with field testing, troubleshooting, and in-shop breaker overhauls.
- Previous experience in the power distribution industry.
- Valid driver's license with an excellent driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and required medical/physical examination.
- Master's Electrician License.
- NETA or NICET Level I-IV Electrical Power Testing Certification.
- Experience performing thermographic (infrared) inspections.
- Experience with protective relays and switch gear controls.
