Intermediate Water Damage Technician

Location: Chesapeake, Virginia
Job Type: Full-Time | Hourly

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an Intermediate Water Damage Technician to lead water mitigation projects for residential and small commercial losses. This role requires strong technical expertise in water damage restoration, moisture detection, equipment operation, and team leadership.

The successful candidate will oversee water mitigation crews, document project progress, assess moisture conditions, and ensure work is completed according to industry standards. This technician also mentors entry-level staff while assisting senior technicians on larger or more complex restoration projects.

To qualify, candidates should have at least 12 months of water damage restoration experience at an entry/basic technician level (or equivalent industry experience) and have participated in a minimum of 25 water damage restoration projects
.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead water damage restoration crews on residential and small commercial projects.
  • Follow instructions provided by supervisors and project managers.
  • Ensure crews use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Monitor daily project progress and communicate updates, challenges, and completion status.
  • Prepare detailed field documentation, moisture logs, photographs, sketches, and reports.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and maintain equipment in safe working condition.
  • Protect customer property while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
  • Deliver excellent customer service throughout restoration projects.
  • Meet project deadlines while working in fast-paced environments.
  • Accurately report labor hours, equipment usage, and material consumption.
  • Participate in required safety meetings and ongoing training.
  • Travel as needed, including occasional nights and weekends.
  • Supervise small crews and assist with catastrophe (CAT) response projects when required.
Core Responsibilities
  • Perform and supervise all basic water mitigation tasks.
  • Document restoration projects with photographs and job file updates.
  • Operate and maintain water extraction and drying equipment.
  • Perform debris removal, containment setup, wall cavity drying, pump operations, carpet seam cutting, cushion removal, and baseboard removal.
  • Identify Class 4 materials and implement the appropriate drying methods.
  • Evaluate structural materials and contents for water damage and determine restoration versus replacement.
  • Create accurate moisture maps using industry-standard equipment.
  • Supervise small restoration crews throughout mitigation projects.
  • Complete additional restoration duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 12 months of water damage restoration experience or equivalent industry experience.
  • Direct participation in at least 25 water damage restoration projects

  • Current IICRC Water Restoration Technician (WRT) certification.
  • Working knowledge of IICRC S500 Water Damage Restoration Standard
    .
  • Working knowledge of IICRC S520 Mold Remediation Standard
    .
  • Experience operating moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, hygrometers, Hydro Sensor, Nav Pro Moisture Meter (or equivalent), and related equipment.
  • Ability to complete moisture content logs, psychrometric logs, drying calculations, moisture mapping, and project sketches.
  • Experience operating truck-mounted extraction systems and performing basic maintenance.
  • Previous experience supervising crews of up to 10 employees.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Strong communication, customer service, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift more than 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift 41-50 pounds with assistance.
  • Work in confined or restricted spaces.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit for extended periods.
  • Use mobile devices to document project information and time reporting.
