Overview
U.S. Facilities, Inc. seeks an Interstate Maintenance Operator to support VDOT through equipment operations, job safety, emergency and preventative maintenance, and manual labor. Responsibilities are routine and outlined below.
Responsibilities- Edge and cut grass with zero‑turn lawn mowers and weed eaters.
- Use chain saws for various tasks.
- Pick up trash along the interstate, roadways, or other designated areas.
- Clean bridges and overpasses of graffiti, trash, and other debris.
- Interact with the homeless to remove abandoned living areas.
- Complete pre‑trip inspections prior to operating any vehicle.
- Participate as a working member of the crew to complete projects and accomplish objectives.
- Perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed for project completion.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and power tools daily.
- Set up work zones, cut brush, clean ditches and pipes, repair roadways, and plow snow when necessary.
- Conduct emergency roadway operations as an essential employee during snow/severe weather and other emergency events.
- Operate light, medium, and heavy‑duty equipment safely to perform maintenance and construction related work tasks.
- Identify workplace safety hazards and make suggestions for improvement.
- Wear proper personal protection equipment.
- Maintain current knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws, and procedures (OSHA and VOSHA, etc.).
- Utilize equipment properly and safely.
- Ensure a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.
- Follow VDOT safety regulations and practices.
- Clear roadways of snow, ice, and debris, and clean up after accidents.
- Provide traffic control.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment, materials, and methods.
- Experience in equipment operations comparable to highway maintenance/construction activities.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including frequently lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Skilled in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
- Ability to work in inclement weather and respond to accidents, emergencies, and disasters during normal work hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- 90‑day probation period.
- Required VDOT/Industry training.
- Potential for significant periods of sitting or standing.
- May be subject to short or no‑notice work assignments.
- Monitored performance with routine evaluation.
- Occasional interaction with the public/media.
- $19.00 hourly
- PTO 120 hours annually
- Paid holidays
- 401‑K
This position is designated as essential, and all duties are required during emergency situations, including inclement weather, disaster response, and emergency operations. VDOT/Contract Management will determine when essential positions are required.
Valid driver’s license required. DMV records check, criminal history records check, and fingerprint check are required.
