Mobile Diesel Technician Level I

Will be responsible for performing DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light repairs, and related duties. The Technician may perform more advanced repairs under the supervision of a Mobile Diesel Technician II or higher. The role involves learning additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques while supporting senior technicians. Performance will be audited for quality and compliance with company policies.

DUTIES
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks, and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift jacks, and related tools.
  • Document work according to company standards, uploading pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) via company‑issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via e‑mail or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, or discuss RO findings and notes.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain company‑issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and daily pre/post trip inspections.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or GED and up to 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications preferred.
  • Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
  • Candidate must successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
  • Candidate must have a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until expiration, or a DOT physical if less than four (4) months of validity remains.
  • Candidates must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must hold and maintain a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS OR OBTAINED WITHIN 18 MONTHS
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS
  • ASE T4 (Brakes) certification.
