Sign-On Bonus

We are currently offering a $2,500 sign-on bonus for Truck Driver new hires. $1,250 is payable after 90 days of employment, and the remaining $1,250 after 180 days.

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Truck Driver in Chesapeake, Virginia for 2nd Shift. The Truck Driver is responsible for transporting and delivering products to Carter Machinery facilities and customer locations over established routes. Candidates should have a minimum of four years’ experience driving a tractor trailer, a valid CDL A licensure, HAZMAT certification preferred, a high school diploma or equivalent preferred, and prior warehouse experience preferred.

• CDL A licensure with proven tractor/trailer driving experience
• Excellent driving record
• Thorough knowledge of DOT and Company safety standards and regulations and ability to conduct pre/post/periodic trip inspections to ensure safety and equipment is in good working order
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
• Mechanical aptitude
• Ability to load, unload, and secure cargo for transport
• Ability to meet delivery deadlines
• Ability to work overtime additional hours as needed to meet customer demand
• Ability to operate a forklift

Physical requirements for the Truck Driver job include frequently sitting for extended periods, using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and talking or hearing. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
