Job Description:

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Director of Pupil Services, to assist in the implementation and administration of the school district's pupil service programs and services in the areas of special education, psychology, school counseling, social work, behavioral modification, speech & language, therapeutic and instructional supports in conformance with district policies and state objectives; as well as applicable law.

Essential Functions

* Assists in developing and administering the school district's special services programs consistent with school district goals and objectives, as well as applicable law.

* Assists in the supervision of employees in responsibility areas, including the recruitment, selection, training, professional development, observation and evaluation of staff under areas of responsibility; makes recommendations regarding goals and corrective action.

* Assists in the assignment of special education, School Counselor, Social Workers, Speech Pathologists, School Psychologist and BCBA to ensure the most effective utilization and provision of special services and programs as requested.

* Supervise Special Education Paraeducators and ABA/DTI Paraeducators and support planning of professional development.

* Collaborate with Elementary School Principals in supporting students programming.

* Supervise specialized programs (Intensive Education Program at Highland, Norton and Bridges Program at Doolittle)

* Support the Director in determining budgetary needs including the need for new programs and services

* Assist Principals in supervising the transition of special education students from Pre-K to kindergarten and grade 6 to grade 7.

* Assists in the supervision of the PPT process, chairing and finalizing IEP's for PPT meetings and collaborating with administrators and teaching staff as needed on IEP development.

* Evaluates special education evaluations and plans to ensure that they are consistent with best practices and legal requirements.

* Assists in school and system-wide curriculum development and staff development in areas of responsibility.

* Assists in ensuring appropriate accommodations are provided for state mandated testing.

* Reviews requisitions for special education curriculum materials, supplies and equipment and makes recommendations regarding approval.

* Keep abreast of developments in the fields of special education, student assessment and school health programs; keeps other school district staff informed of developments in the field as well as changes in laws or regulations in areas of responsibility.

* Coordinates and attends meetings with district staff and parents, and serves on committees.

* Coordinates procedures for placement, transfer and termination of students in special education programs.

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and Director of Personnel Pupil Services.

Qualifications:

* CT State Certification (092).

* Teaching Certification in special education or license in psychology, social work or Counseling preferred.

* Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation

* Bachelors and Masters Degree from an accredited college or university

Salary:
In accordance with the Agreement Between the Cheshire Board of Education and Cheshire Administrative Personnel.
