Overview

Collins Aerospace’s Materials and Process Lab in Cheshire, CT seeks a Metallurgist to perform analytical testing, support failure analyses, and collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering teams in supporting new product introductions and process improvement.

What You Will Do
  • Perform analytical testing including micro‑sectioning, microstructural identification, SEM/EDS, XRF, X‑Ray, tensile and compression testing, digital imaging microscopy, micro‑hardness testing, wet chemistry, GC/MS, FTIR, DSC, and DMA to support failure analyses and root cause investigations.
  • Support qualification/validation efforts for material and/or supplier obsolescence.
  • Support product design and performance involving daily production of numerous product lines.
  • Work with Quality, Manufacturing and Engineering to solve manufacturing issues from suppliers through customers.
  • Apply product/process design knowledge to troubleshooting and RC‑CCA endeavors.
  • Provide support in new product introductions, transitions and conversions.
  • Produce the required reports, procedures and supporting documentation to capture solutions and provide engineering guidance.
  • Develop and support tooling, equipment and materials selections for existing and new products.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 5years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3years of experience.
  • Experience with metallurgical analysis, microstructural and physical properties of metals, and reading and interpreting material specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Metallurgy or Material Science with a concentration in Metallurgy.
  • Experience in failure analysis and root cause/corrective action.
  • Experience with analytical equipment such as SEM, GC/MS, FTIR, DSC, DMA, etc.
