Hutchinson is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of specialist steel support structures, primarily to the Mobile Telecommunications, Offshore and Wind‑Turbine industries. The business operates in‑house Design, Manufacture and Deployment functions from several sites located in Widnes and has a turnover of £29m and employs 243 personnel.
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Metal Fabricator Apprentices. This apprenticeship offers hands‑on experience working alongside experienced fabricators and welders, utilizing cutting‑edge machinery and techniques to produce high‑quality steel structures. Apprenticeship will start in September 2026.
Key Objectives of the Role:- Learn and perform MIG welding on steel components.
- Interpret and work from detailed fabrication drawings.
- Utilize hand and air tools effectively and safely.
- Meet project deadlines while maintaining high‑quality standards.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
- Initiative and problem‑solving capabilities.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Minimum 3 GCSE’s Grades 4 and above including Maths and English.
- Additional engineering training is an advantage but not essential: NVQ level 2 in engineering or Level 3 Extended Diploma in Professional Engineering or T‑Levels in engineering.
- Hardworking and motivated with a positive attitude.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Willingness to learn and adapt.
- Drug and Alcohol policy including testing.
- 8-hour shift.
- Flat hours Monday – Thursday 7.00am – 3.30 pm, Friday 7.00am – 1.30pm, 38 hour week.
- Overtime when available.
Progression to each yearly pay rate is subject to satisfactory performance review, meeting behavioural expectations, and achieving the required competency levels.
