Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to provide advanced clinical care for individuals with complex medical and/or behavioral health needs.

This role requires a high level of clinical independence, including the ability to assess, diagnose, prescribe medications, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

The APRN will deliver comprehensive patient care in a clinical, correctional, behavioral health, or state-operated healthcare setting while ensuring high standards of patient safety and quality of care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive physical and psychiatric assessments.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic medical and behavioral health conditions.
  • Prescribe medications and monitor patient response, adjusting treatment plans as appropriate.
  • Order, interpret, and analyze laboratory and diagnostic studies.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and lead cardiac arrest codes when necessary.
  • Provide specialized medical and psychiatric care for inpatient and outpatient populations.
  • Educate patients regarding diagnoses, medications, and treatment plans.
  • Assess the effectiveness of healthcare services and recommend improvements.
  • Consult with physicians, nurses, therapists, and interdisciplinary care teams regarding patient treatment plans.
  • Provide clinical guidance on appropriate health record documentation.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and community healthcare providers.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and treatment planning.
  • Prepare reports related to healthcare services, investigations, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in quality assurance, clinical, and performance improvement committees.
  • Assist families and caregivers in understanding patient medical and behavioral health needs.
  • Provide training and mentoring to nursing and support staff as needed.
  • Conduct home safety assessments when applicable.
  • Participate in abuse and neglect investigations when required.
  • Testify in court regarding clinical findings if necessary.
  • Assist with oversight and coordination of agency clinic services.
Required Qualifications
  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license issued by the Connecticut Department of Public Health.
  • Ability to independently assess, diagnose, and manage patient care.
  • Experience prescribing and managing medications.
  • Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration abilities.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in behavioral health, correctional healthcare, state-operated healthcare, or community health settings.
  • Experience managing patients with complex medical and psychiatric conditions.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and clinical improvement processes.

    Leadership or clinical training experience is a plus.

Work Environment

This position may be located within a correctional facility, behavioral health center, veterans' facility, or state-operated healthcare setting.
