Position: Sanitation Team Member, 8:30 pm - 7:00 am Distribution Center

Whole Foods Market is seeking a Full Time Sanitation Team Member in our Distribution Center in Cheshire, CT. The Sanitation Team is responsible for keeping the Perishable Distribution Center clean, orderly, and sanitary. The center handles Floral, Meat, and Produce products. Temps range from –10 (Freezer) to 46 degrees. Base Pay: see wage range below.

Incentives:

$1,000 milestone bonus; $500 at 6 and 12 months; $210 a month potential based on productivity and accuracy. Shift: 8:30 PM – 7:00 AM, rotating 4‑day/10‑hour workweek including weekends and holidays (schedules are subject to change with 3 weeks’ notice).

Responsibilities
  • Clean warehouse with hand brooms, electric powered scrubbers, and sweepers to meet company standards.
  • Keep track of cleaning supplies and replenish as needed. Notify the Team Member responsible for purchasing supplies of any impending shortages before supplies are exhausted.
  • Remove and properly dispose of all refuse, recycle, cardboard, and broken pallets.
  • Clean offices (including dusting), break room (including microwaves, refrigerators, and tables), conference room, restrooms, and floors (including sweeping and mopping) and replenish paper goods and supplies as needed.
  • Pre‑shift warm up, meetings and pre‑shift equipment checks.
  • Change or charge batteries in power‑operated equipment, including compactor/baler, pallet jacket, power washer, floor buffer, and scrubbers, and safety equipment.
  • Report all life safety and fire hazards, along with any other violations of company policy to Team Leader for correction, and report all accidents and injuries to Team Leader or Facility Leadership immediately.
  • Properly and accurately record time using the time clock at the beginning and end of each shift and for unpaid meal breaks during shift.
  • Utilize cleaning checklists and adhere to Safety and Master Sanitation Schedule Operating Procedures.
  • Responsible for proper dress code. Steel‑toe or composite toe shoes must be worn.
  • Comply with all applicable health and safety codes.
  • Communicate and maintain employee safety and security standards.
  • Arrive to work on time, wear appropriate PPE, work all scheduled shifts, complete required training and attend required meetings.
  • Ability to read and speak basic English.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Associate Team Leader, Team Leader, and Facility Leadership.

  • Deliver information in a clear and concise manner to fellow team members and customers.

  • Have a working understanding of and compliance with all WFM quality goals and thorough product knowledge with acquired training.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability in recognizing and accomplishing tasks where there is direct job responsibility.
  • Maintain high attention to detail and thoroughness in approach with all paperwork.
  • Use knives, personal protective equipment, forklift, pallet jacks, hand trucks, six‑wheel carts, baler, and all other equipment used during preparation and clean‑up within the department.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time up to 10 hours without a break.
  • Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders.
  • Bend and lift loads regularly not to exceed 25 lbs, and on occasion lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds unassisted.
  • Perform repetitive use of right and left hands for simple grasping, power grasping, pushing, and pulling and fine manipulation for up to six hours during a work shift.
  • Consistently bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and below shoulders, and squat during a work shift.
  • Lift and carry a load of 25 pounds regularly from 1 to over 100 feet and 26–50 pounds to the same distances intermittently during the work shift.
  • Visually identify areas that need cleaning or polishing.
  • Proficient in the proper use of a dumpster, baler, box cutters, and related equipment.
  • Environment exposure to temperature extremes (coolers, freezer, and outdoors).
  • Work in a moderate noise environment.
