Position Overview

The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire a Dental Hygienist for the Chester Mental Health Center located in Chester, Illinois. The dental hygienist will perform technical and advisory services in oral and/or dental hygiene involving oral prophylaxis in a dental operatory, assist the dentist in making dental x‑rays, maintain, clean and sterilize all dental and medical instrumentation, maintain all dental records and reports, and perform educational and organizational work in promoting and monitoring the facility’s patient oral hygiene program.

Functions
  • Perform technical and advisory services in oral and/or dental hygiene involving oral prophylaxis in a dental operatory.
  • Assist dentist in making dental x‑rays, administer sodium fluoride for prevention of tooth decay, in dental surgery and general dentistry.
  • Maintain, clean and sterilize all dental and medical instrumentation by autoclave, steam or cold sterilization.
  • Maintain all dental records and reports and make reports according to facility policy utilizing electronic data processing equipment.
  • Perform educational and organizational work in promoting and monitoring the facility’s patient oral hygiene program.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school, supplemented by completion of two (2) years of college with coursework in dental hygiene.
  • Illinois certificate as a registered dental hygienist.
