Painter

Interstate Waste Services is seeking a skilled Painter to prepare, paint, and refinish waste and recycling trucks, containers, and facility equipment. This role includes surface prep (sanding, grinding, masking), mixing and applying industrial coatings, and performing touch-ups and rust prevention to extend asset life. The Painter follows strict safety and environmental procedures, inspects finished work for quality, and keeps accurate maintenance records.

Responsibilities

• Prepare truck bodies, containers, and equipment by cleaning, sanding, grinding, and masking surfaces
• Mix and apply primers, topcoats, and specialty industrial coatings using spray equipment and hand tools
• Inspect painted surfaces for coverage, runs, and defects; perform touch-ups and rework as needed
• Perform rust prevention and metal preservation to extend the life of fleet assets and containers
• Follow all safety, environmental, and PPE requirements in the paint booth and shop areas
• Maintain painting equipment, tools, and work areas in clean, safe operating condition
• Read and follow work orders, paint specs, and technical data sheets
• Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to prioritize work and minimize equipment downtime
• Document completed work and materials used in maintenance systems or logs
