Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor

The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution at Chester is seeking a highly motivated electrician who enjoys teaching to join our team as a Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor. This position provides structured classroom and hands-on instruction in the electrical trade for inmates at SCI Chester. Your work will support facility operations while helping learners build practical vocational abilities. As a Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor, you will perform the following duties:

  • Classroom Instruction: Teach electrical trade practices and methods in a structured learning setting
  • Hands-On Training: Guide inmates through real work assignments involving installation, repair, and maintenance tasks
  • Work Crew Oversight: Lead inmate work crews and review completed work for accuracy and safety
  • Materials Management: Issue, track, and account tools and materials used during training and work assignments, conduct searches as needed
  • Record Keeping: Document inmate attendance, progress, and assignment details
  • Safety Enforcement: Ensure safety practices are followed and maintain discipline during all training and work activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes). A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment used in buildings; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrical trade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the electrical trade.

Other Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
