Job Overview
Brightpoint Community College is a two‑year public institution located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. The College offers students and the community quality educational opportunities across its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian, as well as online.
PositionAdministrative Assistant, Math, Science, Health, and Human Services Division
Provides administrative support to the Dean, Associate Dean, faculty, and staff within the division. The role performs a variety of support functions, including calendar and schedule management, preparation and processing of forms, purchase orders, budget tracking, and preparation of reports in compliance with institutional guidelines. The assistant also manages electronic and physical filing systems, coordinates special projects and events, maintains confidentiality on all personnel matters, and collaborates with departments across the College.
The position can be located at either the Chester or Midlothian campus and requires flexibility to work both day and evening shifts as needed.
- Assist with daily operations and office activities.
- Provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Manage calendars, deadlines, and the division‑wide class schedule using technology‑based systems.
- Prepare and process forms, purchase orders, budget tracking materials, and division reports.
- Maintain adjunct contracts and records.
- Develop and maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems.
- Assist with and coordinate special projects, events, and initiatives under the direction of the Dean or Associate Dean.
- Collaborate with other departments across the College.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information.
- Demonstrated knowledge of general office procedures and record‑keeping methods for both physical and electronic files.
- Familiarity with basic accounting or budgeting principles, workplace safety, and security protocols.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent organizational, time‑management, and task‑prioritization abilities.
- A proven commitment to exceptional customer service and professional interpersonal support.
- Proficiency in data entry, document preparation, and executive scheduling and calendar management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapt to shifting priorities, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, One Drive) and Google Workspace; ability to learn and use enterprise systems such as People Soft, Emburse Enterprise, EVA, and Adobe products.
- Previous experience in a higher education or public sector administrative setting, preferably within a community college environment.
- Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA and ability to apply them to electronic documents and online content.
- Background check required; all new full‑time classified employees must serve a 12‑month probationary period.
