Job Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role focuses on assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), medication administration, and routine supports while promoting independence, dignity, and meaningful participation in community engagement services. The DSP plays a critical role in ensuring the health, safety, and overall well-being of the individuals served.

Key Responsibilities

Provide hands‑on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, mobility, and meal support.

Administer medications in accordance with physician orders, agency policies, and state regulations.

Support individuals during community engagement activities to foster social inclusion, skill development, and independence.

Monitor individuals for changes in behavior, health, or emotional well‑being and promptly report concerns to supervisory staff.

Maintain accurate documentation related to services provided, medication administration, and daily progress.

Ensure a safe, respectful, and supportive environment at all times.

Assist with routine daily schedules, appointments, and transportation as needed.

Uphold individual rights, confidentiality, and person-centered care principles.

Qualifications & Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (required).

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Ability to pass a criminal background check.

Completion of the following required certifications/training:

32-hour Medication Administration training

TOVA certification

CPR and First Aid certification

Ability to work Monday through Friday during scheduled community engagement service hours.

Strong passion for working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

Ability to follow care plans, policies, and procedures with professionalism and reliability.

Physical Requirements

Ability to assist with physical tasks related to ADLs, including standing, walking, lifting, and transferring as required.

Ability to remain active and engaged during community-based activities.
