QualificationsSecond Chances Comprehensive Services is seeking a dedicated and reliable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support individuals with mental health and developmental needs.
The DSP plays a critical role in implementing individualized treatment and behavioral support plans, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and structured environment. Services are provided across various settings including group homes, private residences, and community-based environments.
Primary Responsibilities Skill Development- Teach and reinforce daily living skills including budgeting, cooking, and social interaction
- Support clients in achieving individualized goals outlined in service plans
- Implement behavior intervention plans
- Utilize de-escalation techniques and crisis management strategies
- Assist with personal hygiene, grooming, and dressing
- Support meal preparation and medication administration as applicable
- Facilitate participation in community activities, employment, and social engagements
- Promote independence and social inclusion
- Advocate for client rights and well-being
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, including progress notes
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Additional education in Human Services or related field preferred
- CPR and First Aid required (or willingness to obtain)
- TOVA and medication administration training preferred or provided
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and professionalism
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Ability to successfully pass all required background checks (including DSS and fingerprinting)
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods
- Capability to lift or assist individuals up to 50 lbs
- Flexibility to work varied shifts including evenings, overnight, weekends, and holiday
