Customers include homeowners, property investors, estate agents, mortgage lenders, and prospective purchasers, giving team members exposure to a variety of property types and requirements.
Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site Damp Proofer role based in Chesterfield. The Damp Proofer will carry out damp investigations, diagnose causes of moisture ingress, and implement appropriate damp-proofing and timber treatment solutions. Day-to-day tasks include preparing work areas, installing damp-proof courses and membranes, treating affected walls and timbers, and ensuring all work is completed to industry standards and company specifications. The role also involves completing job records and reports, liaising with surveyors and office staff, communicating clearly with customers on-site, and maintaining a clean, safe working environment.
The Damp Proofer will be expected to travel to properties across the local region, manage tools and materials responsibly, and follow all health and safety procedures.
- Practical experience in damp proofing, timber treatment, or related property maintenance trades (e.g., plastering, joinery, general building).
- Strong understanding of building structures, moisture ingress, and common damp and timber defects, or willingness to develop this knowledge through training.
- Ability to read and follow survey reports, remedial specifications, and method statements accurately.
- Good communication and customer service skills, with the ability to explain work clearly to clients and work respectfully in occupied properties.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues on-site.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a small team.
- Physically able to carry out manual tasks, work at height, and use tools and equipment safely.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Chesterfield, Sheffield, Derbyshire, and surrounding areas.
- Relevant trade qualifications or certifications (e.g., NVQ in a construction trade, PCA/CSTDB-related training) are beneficial but not essential if equivalent experience is demonstrated.
- Commitment to health and safety best practices and continuous learning in damp proofing and property maintenance techniques.
