Senior Data Center Construction Project Manager – Chesterton, IN
This opportunity is with an established General Contractor that specializes in converting existing buildings and structures into complex buildings/industrial complexes and is expanding its foothold into the Critical Facilities Market. The company is applying its expertise toward brownfield data center projects, converting existing buildings to data centers for the Hyperscale, Colo or Enterprise Marketplace. We are looking for a Senior Data Center Construction Project Manager to support critical facility construction projects. They will lead contractors and vendors involved in delivering company projects. Project assignments are largely regional. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for on-budget, on-time delivery and for ensuring the project scope and quality meet Company Design Standards and project objectives. The candidate should be exceptionally organized and proficient with back-office work (change orders, budgets, paperwork, etc.).
Responsibilities- Maintain liaison with contractors and vendors to manage day-to-day activities impacting the delivery of the company’s critical facilities construction projects.
- Ensure that all day-to-day project responsibilities are met by contractors and vendors.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously. Negotiate contracts with vendors as necessary. Create and manage project schedules.
- Develop project plans – scope, costs, budget, scheduling, timeline, and change-order management.
- Assist with reporting and RFPs to Contractors.
- Deliver Built-to-Suit projects with a heavy emphasis on value-engineering.
- Drive Company Standards uniformly as they relate to Project Delivery by all project participants.
- Manage financial aspects of contracts (progress billing, rental equipment, income/expenses) to protect the company’s interests while maintaining good client relationships.
- Represent the company in project meetings.
- Act as key liaison with managers of all company departments.
- Maintain all logs required to track project progress.
- BA/BS is a plus.
- Experience managing data center construction projects as an Owner or as a General Contractor.
- Experience managing a budget.
- Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the data center construction industry.
- Membership in professional organizations such as AFCOM, ASHRAE, 7x24 Exchange, PTC, Datacenter Dynamics/DCD, Uptime, iMasons, Bisnow, etc.
- Client-facing / client relationship / client management skills.
- Familiar with the design process of building systems for data centers and mission-critical projects.
- Solid construction project management experience.
- Effective communicator – emails, phone, and face-to-face.
- Ability to work independently.
- Travel as needed to project sites.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Computer savvy: MS Project, Excel, P6 or Oracle Primavera;
AutoCAD a plus. - Previous experience in the military/military veterans is a plus. Experience with Electrical/Mechanical sectors (Navy nukes, Seabees, Army Power Generation, etc.).
