Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school counselors promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. Establishes good relationships with students, parents, and other staff members.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Credential - Any valid credential issued by the State of Indiana to perform the services of a school counselor.
* Education - Master's degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
* Follow the criteria established in the Duneland School Corporation School Evaluation Plan.
* Develops and maintains a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program based on Indiana, National, and American School Counselor Association standards.
* Counsel individuals and small groups of students with problems.
* Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental and academic needs of students.
* Refer students with problems to appropriate program specialists or community agencies
* Participate in, coordinate, and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school.
* Participate in and facilitate the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process.
* Schedule and attend meetings with students and or parents as it relates to student academics. success, health, safety, and welfare.
* Maintain accurate and complete student records.
* Plan and evaluate the school counseling program.
* Engage and confer with parents and colleagues, creating healthy relationships with students and faculty to address student academic and behavioral needs and create a quality learning environment.
* Promote an understanding and appreciation of diverse populations and cultures.
* Facilitate the administration of assessments as required by the State of Indiana and the corporation.
* Interact with colleagues, parents, and students in a manner that is professional and reflects the expectations of leadership within the school and corporation.
* Follow all expectations described in the Duneland School Corporation's Teacher Agreement and employee handbook.
* Follow all procedures and expectations established by the building principal(s) and /or corporation leadership.
* Monitor and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
* Participate in sponsorship of department, school, faculty, and district activities and committees.
* Keep abreast of developments in your field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional development
* Monitor and advise students and their parents as to the progress toward promotion/graduation.
* Prepare students for the transition to the next level within the high school and post-high school activities
* Submit required reports promptly and accurately.
* Advocate for equal access to programs and services for all students.
* Plan and coordinate programs such as career and college fairs, scholarships, and other extensions of the counseling curriculum.
* Adhere to the ethical standards of the state and national school counselor associations.
* Performs other duties as required and assigned by the building principal(s) and /or corporation leadership.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
* Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with persons at all levels to develop and maintain productive relationships with all publics
* Ability to learn new skills quickly and assimilate into daily work
* Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality both inside and outside the corporation
* Ability to work independently and in a team environment
* Ability to multitask with attention to detail
* Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in the normal day and expectations
* Proficiency in the use of all technology for instruction and record keeping (i.e., computers, copiers, Skyward)
* Proficiency in the use of and the ability to learn required instructional software ( i.e., Microsoft Office, Skyward, Google Docs, Naviance)
* Demonstrate organizational and time management skills
* Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisors and district administrators
