Track Team Assistant
The Track Team Assistant provides individualized support to a student with special needs participating in the school's track and field program. This role focuses on ensuring the student's safety, inclusion, and positive experience while promoting independence, skill development, and teamwork. Starting hourly rate: $15.
Key responsibilities include providing supervision and assistance to students with disabilities during practices, meets, and team activities; supporting students in understanding and following coaching instructions and routines; assisting with transitions; monitoring the students' safety and well-being; adapting activities or instructions as needed; encouraging social interaction with teammates; fostering inclusion; communicating regularly with coaches, parents/guardians, and school staff; helping manage equipment; and reinforcing positive behavior and sportsmanship.
Qualifications include experience working with individuals with special needs (preferred), patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills, ability to follow directions from coaching staff, basic understanding of track and field activities, reliability, punctuality, CPR/First Aid certification (preferred), and the ability to work in outdoor track and field settings in varying weather conditions after-school hours with occasional weekend meets.
Physical requirements include the ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods, assist with light physical support if needed, and the ability to lift or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
