Teacher Position
Starting salary for new teachers 2026-27: $59,000 annually An additional part of Duneland's application process will be for every new applicant to complete a candidate assessment. Summary of position:
Provides instruction and strategies within a variety of settings to address the academic and emotional needs of students. Leads an educational program for students in an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with students to promote positive attitudes of self-worth; motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program, in accordance with each student's ability;
establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Minimum qualifications:
Credential
- Valid/active Indiana teaching license with mild interventions PK
- Gr. 12 Experience - a. Experience working with secondary school students, as well as endorsements in secondary content, is preferred Education
- Bachelor's degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements Personal qualities
- Highly recommended from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance of the teacher Understanding of state and federal regulations and laws serving individuals with disabilities (i.e., Article 7, IDEA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ADA, etc.)
Principal responsibilities and duties:
Provide direct and/or indirect services through a variety of methods to assigned students according to the IEP or ISP Participate in the case conference committee meeting as the student's special education teacher As the teacher of record, create IEPs including measurable goals, services, accommodations, and all relevant areas to address unique student needs Regularly monitor and manage the implementation of students' IEPs or Service Plans a.
Ensure confidentiality and accessibility of the plan(s) to appropriate and approved stakeholders b. Inform appropriate and approved teachers and related services providers of their specific responsibilities related to the plan(s) and serve as a resource to all other personnel providing services to assigned students c. Direct instructional aides and paraprofessionals and coordinate their work for the purpose of providing an effective school program according to individual student needs d.
Complete progress monitoring of IEP goals and provide to parents on a regular basis Serve as a resource for school-based interventions for students Follow the criteria established in the Duneland School Corporation Teacher Evaluation Plan Provide learning experiences in accordance with the Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum designed by Duneland School Corporation Plan, organize, and deliver specially designed instruction, differentiated lessons and interventions to meet the diverse needs of students.
Establish and implement clear objectives for each lesson Engage students in meaningful activities to ensure student mastery of content Apply the Depth of Knowledge strands in instructional strategies Enter student grades in the student information system Communicate with the building principal about special education issues and trends Confer with parents and colleagues to address student academic and behavioral needs Establish and implement classroom rules and procedures to provide an environment conducive to learning Administer assessments as required by the state of Indiana and the corporation Interact with colleagues, parents, and students in a manner that is professional and reflects the expectations of leadership within the school and corporation Follow all expectations described in IDEA, Article 7, the Duneland School Corporation's Teacher Agreement, and the employee handbook Follow all procedures and expectations established by the building principal and/or corporation leadership Monitor and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
This includes monitoring and escorting students as they change classrooms throughout the building Share in the sponsorship of school and grade-level activities and participate in faculty committees
