SUMMARY OF POSITIONChesterton High School is seeking a long‑term Special Education substitute teacher starting August 10th for about 6 weeks.
COMPENSATION- Sub license $100/day. After 15 consecutive days, in the same position, you will make min $150/day.
- Indiana teaching license $115/day.
- Retired Duneland teacher $125/day.
- With an Indiana teaching license after 15 consecutive days in the same position, you will make beginning teacher pay which is $318.92/day.
Provides instruction and intense intervention for students with unique needs within the special education setting. Provides modifications to curriculum to address the intellectual, social, pre‑vocational and adaptive needs of students. Leads an educational program for students in an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with students to promote positive attitudes of self‑worth; motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program, in accordance with each student's ability;
establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
- Credential – Any valid credential issued by the State of Indiana to perform the services of a substitute teacher. Valid/active Indiana Elementary Teaching License with Mild Intervention.
- Education – Bachelor’s degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
- Understanding of state and federal regulations and laws serving individuals with disabilities (i.e., Article 7, IDEA, Section 504, the ADA, etc.).
- Provide direct and/or indirect services through a variety of methods to assigned students according to the IEP or ISP.
- Participate in the case conference committee meeting as the student's special education teacher.
- As the Teacher of Record, create IEPs including measurable goals, services, accommodations and all relevant areas to address unique student needs.
- Regularly monitor and manage the implementation of students' IEP or Service Plans.
- Ensures confidentiality and accessibility of the plan(s) to appropriate and approved stakeholders.
- Inform appropriate and approved teachers and related services providers of their specific responsibilities related to the plan(s) and serves as a resource to all other personnel providing services to assigned students.
- Direct instructional aides and paraprofessionals and coordinate their work for the purpose of providing an effective school program according to individual student needs.
- Complete progress monitoring of IEP goals and provide to parents on a regular basis.
- Utilize de‑escalation strategies to prevent behaviors that could be harmful to self or others.
- Be a part of the crisis team for the classroom and building to support appropriate Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).
- Follow the criteria established in the Duneland School Corporation Teacher Evaluation Plan.
- Maintain awareness of state standards specified in state law, administrative regulations, or set by the Duneland School Corporation.
- Provide learning experiences in accordance with the Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum designed by Duneland School Corporation.
- Plan, organize and deliver Specially Designed Instruction, differentiated lessons and interventions to meet diverse needs of students.
- Establish and implement clear objectives for each lesson.
- Engage students in meaningful activities to assure student mastery of content.
- Apply Depth of Knowledge strands in instructional strategies.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student performance.
- Communicate with building principal about special education issues and trends.
- Confer with parents and colleagues to address student academic and behavioral needs.
