Discovery Charter School, located in Porter, is a K-8 school serving 500+ students from Northwest Indiana. Discovery has established itself as one of the top performing charter schools in the State of Indiana. As a Special Education Teacher you will:
- Work with students in grades K-8
- Regularly monitor the implementation of students’ IEPs
- Write individual education plans and assist teachers with meeting the requirements of IEPs
- Inform each staff member of his or her specific responsibilities related to the implementation of students’ IEP
- Schedule, attend, and facilitate case conferences
- Support and contribute to the evaluation or re-evaluation process
- Maintain regular communication of student progress with both student’s families and staff
- Demonstrate effective instructional and classroom management approaches to students across all disabilities
- Collaborate with the general education classroom teacher, as well as the special education staff, on curriculum and student needs
Job Requirements:

- Be creative, enthusiastic, and have a passion for helping students reach their personal best
- Demonstrate content knowledge through lesson planning and engaging instruction
- Develop positive and productive relationships with students, colleagues, and families
- Demonstrate strong instructional skills and classroom management
Job Qualifications:
- A current Indiana Teacher’s License is required
- Special Education license not required, but must be willing to obtain a Special Education license
- Must demonstrate a commitment to professional growth
- Pass a background check
