Senior Data Center Construction Project Manager – Chesterton, IN
This opportunity is with an established General Contractor that specializes in converting existing buildings and structures into complex industrial complexes and is looking to expand its foothold even further into the Critical Facilities Market. Our client is taking their expertise and focus and applying it toward brownfield data center projects – the process of converting an existing building into a data center for the hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise marketplace.

We are looking for a Senior Data Center Construction Project Manager to support critical facility construction projects. They will be responsible for all aspects of managing a data center construction project, including providing leadership to contractors and vendors associated with project delivery. The project assignments will primarily be regional. The candidate will have overall responsibility for delivering assigned projects on budget and on time, ensuring that the project scope and quality meet company design standards and objectives.
The successful candidate must be exceptionally organized and adept at back‑office work such as change orders, budgets, and paperwork.
- Maintain liaison with various contractors and vendors to manage day‑to‑day activities affecting delivery of company critical facilities construction projects
- Ensure that all day‑to‑day project responsibilities are met by contractors and vendors on the project
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including negotiating contracts with vendors as necessary and creating and managing project schedules
- Develop project plans – sizing, costs, budget, scheduling, timeline, manage change orders, etc.
- Assist with reporting and RFPs to contractors
- Deliver built‑to‑suit projects with a heavy emphasis on value‑engineering
- Drive company standards uniformly as they relate to project delivery by all project participants on all projects
- Manage financial aspects of contracts (progress billing, rental equipment, income/expenses) to protect the company’s interests while maintaining good client relationships
- Represent the company in project meetings
- Act as key liaison with managers of all company departments
- Maintain all logs required to track project progress
- BA/BS a plus
- Experience managing data center construction projects as an owner or general contractor
- Experience managing a budget
- Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the data center construction industry
- Active membership in professional organizations such as AFCOM, ASHRAE, 7×24 exchange, PTC, Datacenter Dynamics/DCD, Uptime, iMasons, Bisnow, etc.
- Client‑facing / client relationship / client management skills
- Familiarity with the design process of building systems for data center and mission‑critical projects
- Solid construction project management experience
- Effective communicator – email, phone and face‑to‑face
- Ability to work independently
- Travel as needed to project sites
- Solid administrative skills
- Computer savvy: MS Project, Excel, P6 Oracle Primavera, AutoCAD a plus
- Previous experience in the military/military veterans highly valued; experience with electrical/mechanical:
Navy nukes – EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees;
Army – power generation;
Air Force – power production; generator technicians; maritime, coast guard, army national guard, etc.
