Commissioning Project Manager - Data Center Construction - Chesterton, IN

Our client, an established General Contractor, specializes in converting existing buildings and structures into critical infrastructure and is expanding into the brownfield data center market. Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple CxA projects as a Program Manager, leading a team of commissioning engineers and project managers across a range of data center projects.
  • Provide direction, monitor effectiveness, and offer leadership to project teams.
  • Work closely with functional areas, contractors, internal/external team members, customers, and suppliers.
  • Oversee all phases of project management: design, quality control, staffing, budget management (P & L) while adhering to industry best practices.
  • Interface with clients to define project requirements and develop work plans and deadlines.
  • Maintain client relationships and manage expectations through effective communication.
  • Champion design reports, produce engineering proposals (RFPs), and facilitate client meetings and presentations.
  • Track progress against goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Generate reports, track project costs, and forecast financials.
  • Ensure expenses remain within the prescribed budget.
  • Implement company policies and procedures.
  • Manage technical aspects of projects and serve as a technical resource for the local commissioning team.
  • Guarantee adherence to CxA standards for equipment pre‑start‑up, start‑up procedures, SOPs, MOPs, and comprehensive commissioning documentation.
  • Oversee commissioning test procedures, logs, equipment checklists, and other tools.
  • Produce comprehensive reports, including recommendations for optimizing building operations, functional checklists, deficiency lists, and maintenance manuals.
  • Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, submittals, and testing procedures.
  • Conduct integrated system testing, load bank testing, and compile testing results.
  • Execute functional tests for building MEP systems, including fire alarm, HVAC, chillers, CRAC units, electrical distribution, UPS, standby generators, and emergency lighting.
  • Follow company QC processes and procedures.
  • Interface with clients, contractors, equipment vendors, and owner agents as needed.
  • Assist with field troubleshooting of commissioned equipment and operate Power Quality Analyzers, Disturbance Analyzers, data loggers, and related testing equipment.
Qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience managing data center/critical facilities projects with an A/E, MEP, or CxA company.
  • Prior data center or mission‑critical experience required.
  • 5–10+ years of experience in electrical/mechanical commissioning.
  • Experience with Level 1–5 commissioning.
  • Experience managing CxA teams and developing plans for large‑scale commissioning projects.
  • Knowledge of IEEE/ASHRAE procedures and protocols a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of systems design for various projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering a plus.
  • Project management experience in the consulting engineering industry.
  • Client relationship and business development experience, including creating RFPs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Computer savvy, proficient with Microsoft Project and Excel.
  • Military veterans with experience in electrical or mechanical disciplines is a huge plus.
  • Must be open to 25–50% travel.
