SUMMARY OF POSITION:
A Duneland School Corporation bus driver is required to operate all school vehicles in a safe and lawful manner. This position has a highly responsible role in transporting and dealing with students and staff on a regular basis. Bus drivers interact with individuals both inside and outside of the corporation and therefore, must have the ability to present a professional and organized image at all times.
Starting hourly rate:
$23.00 benefitted
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Prior to becoming a Duneland School Corporation bus driver, a valid commercial drivers' license (CDL) is required. This license must be authorized by the State of Indiana. The following endorsements of said CDL are required:
- Passenger Endorsement
- School Bus Endorsement
- Air Brake Endorsement
A bus driver is expected to conserve corporation resources and maintain a clean sanitary work environment for students and co-workers whether it is in a Duneland School Corporation vehicle or in any Duneland School Corporation location.
Work Environment: This position typically works in a school bus setting with a controlled temperature environment. Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions may occur depending upon assignments.
Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all transportation vehicles and a basic knowledge of operating computers, printers, telephone systems, and copiers is also required.
Hours: This position is typically expected to work an average of 4 to 6 hours per school day. Summer hours will be adjusted as authorized by the Superintendent to assure adequate coverage throughout the summer school period. Evening or weekend activities may be scheduled as necessary. This position may require occasional travel to other states and communities.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by all Duneland School Corporation bus drivers to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
The employee is required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
