Our client is one of the Mid-Atlantic's leading heavy civil contractors, specializing in highway construction, site development, utilities, asphalt paving, and infrastructure projects throughout Maryland and the Delmarva region.

As the company continues to grow, they are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee multiple heavy civil construction projects from award through closeout. Position Summary

The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall planning, execution, financial performance, and successful completion of heavy civil construction projects. This individual will work closely with estimating, superintendents, field personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, and experience managing multiple public and private site development or highway construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage heavy civil construction projects from contract award through final completion.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and forecasting.
  • Review plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents.
  • Coordinate project startup activities with field operations and superintendents.
  • Monitor project costs, productivity, equipment utilization, and overall profitability.
  • Prepare and manage subcontract agreements and purchase orders.
  • Negotiate pricing with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Review and approve subcontractor invoices and project costs.
  • Prepare monthly cost reports, forecasts, and project updates.
  • Manage project documentation, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and closeout documentation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, engineers, inspectors, municipalities, and subcontractors.
  • Attend owner meetings, progress meetings, and project coordination meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety standards, OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and contract specifications.
  • Work collaboratively with estimating, accounting, operations, and executive leadership to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Mentor and support project engineers and other team members as needed.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Experience managing roadway, highway, utility, asphalt paving, grading, site development, or underground utility projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling, budgeting, cost controls, and project financial management.
  • Experience administering public works and DOT projects is highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and supplier relationships.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Heavy Job, HCSS, Viewpoint, Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar construction management software is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel between project sites.
Preferred Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and heavy civil construction experience will also be considered.
