Interior Designer (Residential & Commercial)
About Common Thread Interiors

We believe the spaces we create are only as strong as the team behind them. That's why we're just as intentional about building an exceptional workplace as we are about designing exceptional interiors.

Common Thread Interiors is a boutique interior design studio based in Chestertown, Maryland, creating timeless residential interiors while expanding our commercial portfolio. Every project—whether it's a custom home, renovation, vacation retreat, or local business—is approached with creativity, thoughtful collaboration, attention to detail, and exceptional client service.

As our studio continues to grow, we're looking for an Interior Designer who wants to grow with us.

This isn't a position where you'll simply make selections and pass a project along. Our designers are involved from the first client meeting through the final installation, taking ownership of every detail while working collaboratively with the entire team.

If you love solving problems, building relationships, creating beautiful spaces, and aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves and dive into the work, we'd love to meet you.

What You’ll Do

As an Interior Designer, you'll partner closely with the Founder & Creative Director to develop and execute residential and commercial interior design projects from concept through installation.

You'll contribute creative ideas, collaborate throughout every phase of the design process, and help bring beautiful, functional spaces to life. Every project at Common Thread Interiors is a collaborative effort, with designers encouraged to contribute ideas while refining each project together to ensure it reflects the vision and standards of the studio.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing creative design concepts and client presentations
  • Space planning and furniture layouts
  • Furniture, lighting, plumbing, finish, fabric, and material selections
  • Product sourcing and specification
  • Preparing proposals, budgets, and presentations
  • Ordering, tracking, and coordinating furnishings and materials
  • Managing project timelines and documentation
  • Communicating with clients, vendors, architects, builders, and trades
  • Conducting site visits and attending construction meetings
  • Coordinating installations, styling, and project completion
  • Supporting teammates and collaborating as project needs evolve
Why Common Thread

At Common Thread Interiors, we believe exceptional careers are built the same way exceptional interiors are—through trust, collaboration, curiosity, and attention to detail.

Because we're a boutique studio, we don't separate design work from project management. Every designer is responsible for guiding their projects from concept through installation—developing ideas, communicating with clients, coordinating vendors, managing schedules, placing orders, and seeing every detail through to completion.

We believe this level of ownership creates stronger designers, exceptional client experiences, and a team that understands every aspect of the design process.

We also believe great design is collaborative. Every team member is encouraged to bring ideas to the table, challenge one another respectfully, and continue learning. Projects are refined together to ensure they reflect the vision, quality, and design standards of Common Thread Interiors.

Above all, we value integrity, accountability, curiosity, and kindness. We believe in doing what we say we're going to do, communicating honestly, and treating our clients, vendors, trades, and teammates with professionalism and respect.

At the end of the day, we're in the people business just as much as the design business. Beautiful spaces are the result of strong relationships, hard work, thoughtful collaboration, and a team that genuinely enjoys creating together.

Qualifications

We're more interested in talent, work ethic, and potential than checking every box.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • 2–3 years of interior design experience (3 years preferred)
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating thoughtful, well-executed design work (portfolio required)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or another CAD program is a plus, but not required
  • Workin…
