Compensation: $140,000 – $175,000 base
A well‑established private real estate development company in Bethesda, MD is seeking an experienced Real Estate Development Accounting Manager to join a respected, long‑tenured, and financially strong organization. This is a high‑visibility role for a technically strong accountant who excels in real estate development accounting and enjoys leading teams within a stable, drama‑free environment.
The company focuses on land acquisition and residential development and has maintained consistent revenue, a significant backlog of projects, and a strong commitment to professional, accountable, and mature business practices.

- Oversee accounting for land and residential development projects
- Manage capital gains and installment sale accounting
- Handle preferred return waterfalls and promote structures
- Prepare and review multi‑entity financials and consolidations
- Oversee bank draws and lender compliance documentation
- Provide GAAP oversight specific to real estate development
- Review staff work, enforce deadlines, and provide training
- Serve as the technical accounting resource for senior leadership
- Support system and workflow modernization efforts as the company upgrades its ERP environment
- CPA required (active preferred; inactive acceptable if reactivation is feasible)
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong tenure with demonstrated stability in prior roles
- Deep understanding of development‑specific tax issues, including capital gains and installment sales
- Strong GAAP technical depth related to development
- Experience with preferred return waterfalls and promote structures
- Bank draws and lender compliance reporting experience
- Multi‑entity accounting and consolidations
- Hands‑on accounting background (not finance‑only)
- Ability to train, review, and hold staff accountable to deadlines
- Sage 300 CRE experience
- Sage Intacct experience (strong preference due to future system transition)
- Experience in privately held or entrepreneurial development environments
- Experience improving accounting workflows or modernizing processes
- Experience mentoring long‑tenured staff and managing evolving accountability expectations
