GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Health is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional to fill the role of Vital Records Clerk in the office of Vital Record Services. This position serves as one of three Vital Records Clerks that work as a team to register adoption, birth, death, fetal death, marriage and divorce events that occur in the State of Wyoming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.

* Manages the day-to-day completion of birth, adoption, death, fetal death, marriage, and divorce records within the Vital Statistics Services System. Works closely with funeral homes, county officials (Clerks of Court, County Clerks, and Coroners), health care providers, health information managers, county registrars, and other Vital Statistics Services Systems users to file vital event records timely and accurately

* Processes court-ordered amendments, affidavits, and corrections for all vital event records

* Responsible for investigating evidence to review and file delayed records

* Acts as a resource to provide information or interpretation of agency-specific rules/regulations to staff, the public or other government entities

* Work may involve taking on various administrative responsibilities, including acting as a backup for the Issuance Unit

* Work as a part of the technical team to identify system issues and assist in writing requirements and testing as needed

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to applicants with two or more years of experience working with records. Preference will be given to applicants with organization, multitasking, and time management skills. Preference will be given to applicants with the ability to maintain and track various workflow processes. Preference will be given to applicants with accurate data entry skills.

KNOWLEDGE:

* Knowledge and understanding of the applicable state statutes, administrative rules, policies, and procedures as they pertain to Vital Statistics

* Ability to maintain confidential information.

* Team player - must have a track record of working with and supporting others to accomplish organizational goals. To relay and have an understanding and adherence to guidelines and program objectives.

* Skills include leadership, written and oral communication, interpreting legislation, researching, evaluating, analyzing, and decision-making.

* Ability to prioritize tasks; establish and accomplish goals and objectives; work independently; communicate instructions and information verbally and in writing; manage time and schedule workloads.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Records or Data Management)

Experience:

0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Records and Data Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Records & Data Management Clerk

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Records and Data Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Records & Data Management Clerk

WORKING CONDITIONS:

* Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
