Safely and efficiently operates a variety of heavy construction equipment to support heavy civil construction projects. This position is responsible for equipment operation, minor maintenance, and assisting crews to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
Main Responsibilities- Embrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
- Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
- Follow all safety procedures, report unsafe conditions, and use tools, equipment, and materials properly
- Operate a range of heavy construction equipment, which may include excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, scrapers, skid steers, backhoes, articulated trucks, rollers, and other mobile or stationary equipment
- Operate additional tools and light equipment as required to support assigned construction tasks
- Conduct pre and postoperation inspections to ensure equipment is in safe operating condition
- Perform routine and minor maintenance tasks, including fueling, greasing, checking fluids, and reporting mechanical issues
- Safely operate company vehicles when authorized to travel between jobsites and company locations
- Assist with maintaining clean, orderly, and safe jobsite conditions
- Work closely with foremen, skilled craft workers, laborers, and other crew members to complete assigned projects
- Perform manual labor and general construction tasks as needed to support project completion
- High school diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent construction experience
- Valid driver's license with the ability to maintain a clean driving record required
- OSHA or training preferred or ability to obtain
- Previous experience operating heavy construction equipment in a construction or industrial environment required
- Knowledge of safe equipment operation practices and jobsite safety requirements
- Ability to read and understand safety rules, operating instructions, and equipment manuals
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- Strong situational awareness and attention to detail
- Ability to follow directions, meet productivity expectations, and adapt to changing work conditions
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to identify equipment issues
- Wears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required
- Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds with or without assistance to handle materials, tools, equipment, or documents essential to the role
