Lead Superintendent - Mechanical

Project Overview

The Infrastructure GBU’s Renewables & Clean Power business line is pursuing future combined cycle power plant projects. The business line is assembling a proposal team to be based in Reston, VA. Upon successful award, the candidate will mobilize to the project site.

The Construction Lead Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for activities of the mechanical supervision team relating to construction within the mechanical rotating equipment, centerline, and HRSG disciplines. In this role, you will manage the organization and direction of project construction activities, oversee the management and supervision of construction craft personnel, and control cost and schedule. Your leadership will ensure project operations are compliant, safe, timely, within scope and budget.

• Manages the organization and direction of construction for all rotating equipment, centerline equipment, HRSG, tanks, and vessels.
• Manages all mechanical activities including actions of Bechtel craft, subcontractors, and chemical cleaning activities.
• Oversees management and supervision of other mechanical superintendents.
• Manages area expenditures for labor, equipment, material, and services and ensures field operations remain within the budget.
• Establishes project field procedures and objectives within corporate policies and procedures as necessary at a jobsite.
• Develops, implements, and administers a jobsite security plan and coordinates activities with Corporate Security, Safety & Quality.

• Reviews and monitors subcontractor construction schedules, resource charts, and material and equipment requirements.
• Reviews and approves, where necessary, subcontractor construction methods, schedules, manning charts, and material and equipment requirements.
• Leads mechanical equipment construction operation impacts on external interfaces to ensure they coincide with the overall established schedules.
• Coordinates with other subcontractors and external stakeholders to plan construction schedules.
• Reviews project control documents on progress relating to cost and schedule.

• Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements.
• Enforces policies, procedures, and related work rules as established by field construction management.
• Ensures Zero Accident Philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.

• Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
• Coordinates engineering solutions with subcontractors, Foremen, and Craft Professionals.
• Coordinates with Design on constructability issues.

Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8‑10 years of relevant experience, or 12‑14 years of relevant work experience.

• Experience on combined cycle facilities is preferred.
• Knowledge of rotating equipment, tanks & vessels, centerline equipment, and HRSG installation preferred.
• Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
• Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
• Excellent communication and problem‑solving ability.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and lead teams.
• Maintain, promote, and cultivate a safe work ethic and work environment within the craft.
• Able to work extended work schedules and night shift as required to support the project execution plans and schedules.
• Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.
• Must have work authorization within the United States of America.
