GENERALJOB DESCRIPTION:
To perform technical building inspection work in enforcing compliance with building codes, regulations, and ordinances; to confer with contractors, developers, designers, and property owners to ensure building codes are properly enforced. Assist Chief Building Official to carry out policies and coordinate with staff in the field to address and solve code compliance issues.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Assist the Chief Building Official to carry out policies and procedures for plan reviews, permits, code compliance, and licensing to promote customer service.
- Assist in the development and implementation of goals, activities, objectives, policies, and priorities for the department.
- Assist in supervising field operations of the department; delegate assignments to plan reviewer and compliance inspectors; coordinate and analyze compliance inspector schedules to ensure proper allocation.
- Assist in meeting and coordinating with designers, contractors, and other City departments for preliminary cursory reviews of projects that will be submitted to the department for permits.
- Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
- Perform the analysis and evaluation of building construction plans to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations; recommend corrective actions to be taken; develop plan review correction notices pertaining to the examination of construction plans.
- Inspect industrial, commercial, and residential and existing buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. Issue notices to comply on violations; maintain records of history of facts for possible legal actions.
- Coordinates with Plans Examiners, Chief Building official, compliance inspectors and other department staff to ensure projects are inspected in a timely manner.
- Responsible for assisting the Chief Building Official with training of all inspection staff to include all new hire inspectors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Stay informed on current code requirements and maintain certifications required to perform required inspections.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Building related codes and ordinances enforced by the City of Cheyenne, including the International Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical Codes and Residential Codes.
- Complex principles and techniques of building inspection and plans examining work.
- Principles of structural design and engineering mathematics.
- Major types of building construction, materials, and methods.
- Accepted safety standards and methods of building construction for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.
- Interpret and apply pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Read and interpret complex building plans, specifications and building codes.
- Determine if construction systems conform to City Code requirements.
- Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques to examine workmanship and materials and detect deviations from plans, regulations, and standard construction practices.
