Capital city newspaper seeks state government reporter

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle, the capital city’s longest-running and most trusted media organization, is looking for a dynamic journalist with a passion for government accountability, enterprise and solutions-driven reporting to serve as our state government reporter.

The winner of first place in General Excellence from the National Newspaper Association Foundation four of the last five years, including in 2025, the WTE is committed to providing subscribers with the news they need, when they need it and in a format that best fits their lifestyle, whether that’s through our mobile app, on our website, on social media or in print.

• Cover state government with a focus on accountability and solutions-driven reporting.
• Collaborate with reporters and photographers to deliver comprehensive Capitol coverage.
• Break high-impact stories online first, then provide deeper context and analysis.
• Support a dynamic newsroom team and learn from colleagues in a fast-paced environment.

• Essential skills
• The ability to turn around a story on a tight deadline after meetings that can last an hour or a full day.
• Clear, concise writing that explains what readers need to know without bogging them down in jargon.
• A willingness to collaborate with newsroom teammates to cover news wherever and whenever it happens.
• A solid foundation in news writing and AP style.
• Preferred skills
• Knowledge of the BLOX content management system.
• Experience with or willingness to learn reporting and editing for a weekly podcast.
• Photography skills, or a willingness to learn.
• Data analysis using spreadsheets, databases, etc.

Cheyenne is conveniently located 90 minutes north of Denver and 45 minutes east of Laramie, home of Wyoming’s only four-year university. We are less than two hours from Rocky Mountain National Park, and close to many other scenic outdoor areas, including great places to hike, fish, ski and bike.
