Purpose Statement: Provide adapted grade‑level academics and age‑appropriate living skills to students on IEPs with severe cognitive disabilities and/or profound physical limitations, supervise and instruct severely special‑needs students, observe and document progress, implement instruction plans, and assist students with special health‑care needs.
Essential Functions- Adapt grade‑level academics and appropriate living‑skill materials to support and reinforce classroom objectives and the IEP.
- Administer developmental testing programs and subject‑specific assessments to evaluate student competency levels and develop individualized educational plans.
- Provide immediate first‑aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health‑care professional (e.g., diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, medication) to meet students’ health‑care needs and daily‑living activities.
- Attend meetings, workshops, professional‑development activities and in‑service presentations (e.g., first‑aid, CPR, emergency procedures, current best practices) to acquire and convey information related to job functions.
- Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and community resources to improve overall student outcomes, achieve classroom objectives, and meet IEP objectives.
- Communicate with professionals and parents/guardians (teachers, counselors, parents) and participate in IEP meetings to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
- Direct student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers and student workers to provide effective classroom programs, address individual student needs and maintain equitable schedules.
- Instruct and monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (lunch, bus stops, playground, classroom, field trips, public transportation, assemblies, kitchen) to maintain a safe, positive learning environment and meet IEP requirements.
- Maintain instructional materials and electronic records to ensure availability, provide written reference, and meet mandated requirements.
- Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment; meet with the team of school professionals, parents, and other involved persons to develop a growth‑promoting IEP.
- Participate in the development and implementation of IEP goals to meet district, state and federal guidelines.
- Prepare written materials (grades, advancement in IEP objectives, attendance, anecdotal records) to document progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Provide quality instruction, support, care and supervision (e.g., transfer, shower, change diapers, feed tubes, administer medicine, perform motor programs) to help students safely learn academics and life skills in a healthy environment.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements:Minimum Qualifications
Skills: Adhere to safety practices, operate standard office equipment, use relevant software, prepare and maintain accurate records.
Knowledge: Basic math calculations, read technical information, compose documents, facilitate group discussions, solve practical problems; teaching procedures, age‑appropriate activities, safety practices, conflict resolution, child development stages.
Abilities: Schedule activities, gather and analyze data, communicate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, work as part of a team, adapt to changing priorities, handle interruptions.
Experience: Job‑related experience required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Certificates: Appropriate Wyoming State Department of Education Certificate, endorsement, and Highly Qualified Status.
Certifications / Training: Current MANDT certification.
Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
