Starting Date: Immediately

Contract Length: 188‑day contract (10 months)

Workdays: Monday‑Friday

Pay: $17.10 hourly, paid over 12 months.

Summary

Under the direction of a certified teacher, provides support for the operation of and instructional programs within the assigned library/media center. Responsibilities include assisting teachers, students, and administrators in identifying resource materials; performing circulation activities; conducting classes and/or activities for students; maintaining databases; and maintaining the full library/media collection of books, periodicals, hardware/software, media equipment, and instructional materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers, students, and administrators in identifying resource materials and responding to inquiries about availability, overdue fines, and reference documents.
  • Perform circulation activities such as check‑in/out, shelving, circulation counts, and overdue monitoring.
  • Conduct classes or activities that promote library skills and the enjoyment of literature.
  • Import, export, and update databases related to collection statistics, orders, budgets, overdue lists, and prepare necessary reports.
  • Maintain the collection of library books, periodicals, hardware/software, media equipment, and instructional materials, including barcoding, inventorying, evaluating, repairing, and ordering supplies.
  • Monitor and supervise students in various settings, implementing discipline per district policies to ensure a safe learning environment.
  • Consult with certified teachers to evaluate student progress and provide feedback or documentation.
  • Respond to emergency situations (e.g., injured student, fights) to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Train and guide student and parent volunteers in library functions.
  • Attend meetings, in‑service training, and workshops as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Related Work Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No experience required; experience working with school‑age children preferred.
Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • First Aid certification preferred.
Technical Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
  • English language skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal relations skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Bilingual language skills preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively and compassionately with students with all levels of abilities.
  • Ability to adhere to attendance expectations and district absence reporting procedures.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Trustees, district, and building policies.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse people.
  • Ability to recognize safety importance, follow rules, and report unsafe conditions.
Materials and Equipment Operating Knowledge
  • Operating knowledge of personal computers and peripherals (preferred; required within 2 months).
  • Operating knowledge of office equipment (telephones, copier, fax) (preferred; required within 2 months).
  • Operating knowledge of office productivity programs (Microsoft Office Suite, E‑mail) preferred.
Reporting Relationships & Direction/Guidance

Reports to Principal. No supervisory responsibilities.

Budget and/or Resource Responsibility
  • Makes recommendations regarding library media acquisitions appropriate for student level.
